Susan Harper
Susan Harper grew up in New Glasgow, north-eastern Nova Scotia where she was immersed in a Celtic culture and their lively music. She started piano lessons when she was 7 years old.
She operated Sharper Kids Conservatory for thirty years, offering piano lessons and Kindermusik classes for children aged newborn to 7 years. She has studied Orff and Kodaly methods of music education at the University of Alberta and continues to participate in professional learning. Susan lived a dream years ago, playing piano for the Ashlei Ballet School for their Royal Academy of Dance exams.
Susan is a certified school teacher having taught elementary music at various schools throughout Alberta, organizing Christmas concerts and participating in music festivals with children’s choirs who have won several gold and platinum awards. She is currently employed with Rockyview Schools.
One of her greatest musical joys (second only to teaching piano) is playing the organ on Sunday for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She started accompanying for church services, children’s choirs and soloists at the tender age of 12.
When she is not teaching and accompanying, Susan loves being with her husband, kids and grandkids. Traveling back home to the East Coast, reading, knitting and connecting with friends.
