Maria Storkova

Maria is a passionate and creative teacher looking forward to imbuing her students with the same passion for music which she herself found at Skyline at a young age.

Maria began playing piano in 2007, and has been passionate about music her whole life. She played a variety of instruments in her Middle School and High School music programs, including percussion and clarinet, allowing her to explore her various musical interests as part of an award-winning musical ensemble. During this time, she also won the award for Highest Theory Mark for Music 10 and 20, and participated in a community choir. Over the years, however, piano has emerged as her main musical focus. She is taking ongoing lessons with fellow Skyline teacher Sheila Shareski, currently studying RCM Grade 10 level. She has also completed up to the RCM Grade 8 Theory, achieving First Class Honours with Distinction.

2022 will be Maria’s first year teaching, and she’s looking forward to getting to know her new students and cultivating their musical talents with them! Her extensive childcare background has given her the opportunity to develop a great skillset for working with children. Maria prides herself on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for her students, no matter their background.

In her off time, Maria enjoys perusing her many creative talents, exploring new music, and caring for her (extensive) houseplant collection. She is currently working towards a Bachelor of Art History at the University of Calgary, and has hopes of pursuing art preservation and restoration in the future.
